Upcoming Concert May 30, 2012

The spring practice season for the Sweeney Singers is in full swing. We are working on a range of brand new pieces, and old favourites from our latest recording. As always, we’ve planned a wide variety of genres, which include Sicut Cervus by Palestrina, (for all you early music buffs) Blue Skies by Irving Berlin, and Espiritu de Dios, a sacred Spanish piece.

In addition to our choral pieces we’re working on a mixture of trios, and quartets to add some variety and give the singers a chance to showcase their individual voices.

A particular favourite in the practice room so far is This Marriage by popular American composer and conductor Eric Whitacre. It’s hard to resist the straining harmonies of the piece that are so characteristic of Whitacre.

The concert will be held at Bakerview Church on May 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm. All proceeds of the concert will go to a charity soon to be announced with admission by donation. Check back later for more details.
